Human Sled Pull Iditarod
(Grades 3-8)
Equipment needed:
- Sleds with pulling ropes
- Marking Cones
Directions:
Make a trail or use a field where two or three sleds can race against each other. Divide the children into groups of two or three. One or two children pull and one rides. The lead puller switches with the rider each time a race is completed. You might also want to switch riders and pullers for each different leg of the race.
Safety:
The ropes should to be long enough so that if the puller falls the sled does not crash into the puller. Avoid sharp turns in the course that could cause the sled to roll. Tell the riders to have their feet ready for quick stopping. The lead puller should be assigned to take care of the crew by not going fast than the other pullers. All pullers should stay on the ropes.
